Helping Small Businesses

John Salazar is committed to protecting small businesses, which are vital to the economy of the 3rd CD.  Many of today's largest corporations were once small businesses, and without small businesses our rural economies could not exist.  They provide jobs and economic development to our communities, and add to the tax base of our cities, counties, states, and federal governments.  Small businesses represent more than 99 percent of all employers in the United States, and account for nearly all of the self-employed.  According to the Congressional Research Service, there are over 17,000 small businesses in the 3rd CD alone.  In this time of economic turmoil and uncertainty, small businesses play a critical role in rebuilding our economy and creating jobs.

John is involved in production agriculture.  As a small business owner himself, a member of the Business Owner's Caucus, and one of the few Members of Congress to still own and operate a business, John understands the important issues many of the small business employers face.  He has dealt with the regulations faced by the nation's employers and has fought hard for health care reform to lower the cost of health insurance, which can strain the already tight budgets of small businesses in Colorado.  Most importantly, he has fought to loosen credit markets for small businesses and provide them with the capital they need to grow and thrive despite the current economic climate.  John Salazar understands the many issues that small business owners face because of his real life experience running one, and he will continue to make sure they have all the resources necessary to support their families and contribute to a lasting economic recovery.
